We arrived in Rotorua, our third stop, quite late on Monday. I’ve been feeling really ill for over a week now, since before we left Auckland and the first morning in Rotorua pushed me over the edge! A freezing cold shower left me breathless and desperate for warmth… it was not a happy moment
We had planned to go to the Waitomo Glowworm Caves, but decided I had to go and see a doctor. Thank god I did! I was soon told I had pneumonia and might have had to go to hospital if I’d left it any longer. Thankfully I just got some antibiotics and am already starting to feel better (the night after).
It’s now Christmas night and it’s been a weird one to be honest! We managed to change our glowworms booking to today (yep, they’re open Christmas Day!), so that took up most of the day. I struggled through it a bit with my chest still giving me grief, but it was nice and definitely worth seeing. The glowworms were very pretty!
Then we picked up a Dominos pizza on the way back to share with our ready meals! Not exactly a traditional Christmas dinner!
Also, we decided to check into a motel for a couple of nights seeing as I’m poorly so we’ve spent Christmas Eve and Christmas night in semi-luxury… compared to our campervan anyway! I can definitely say the hot tub in our room is helping my recovery!!
We’re hoping to see a lot more of Rotorua tomorrow so hopefully I’ll be feeling better. We were originally supposed to be leaving Rotorua on the 28th, but are thinking about cutting it short by one day and heading up to Mount Maunganui in Tauranga as it looks really nice there.
Anyway, it’s been a different Christmas experience that’s for sure… but hopefully things get better from here!
