After weeks of putting it off due to me working most weekends, rainy days and searching for a campervan, we finally made the trip to Hobbiton and we are so glad we waited ’til we did!

We packed up the campervan ready for our first night away in it, the weather was beautiful & sunny and off we went!

After Just over 2 hours drive south of Auckland we arrived at Hobbiton with minutes to spare, where we were greeted by a somewhat moody tour guide… she really wasn’t loving life that day! But it just made it funny as we were just laughing at her!

Hobbiton was amazing! We had made an attempt at watching the first Lord of the Rings film a few weeks earlier, but neither of us really got into it. But it didn’t matter, we still loved Hobbiton!

We walked around the farm looking at all the hobbit houses, sets from the film and then ended in The Green Dragon pub for a free drink! It really was a glorious day which made it even better. My advice would be to wait for a nice day to go as I imagine it would be very bleak in the rain and it’s all outside (well apart from the pub!)

After 3 and a half hours at Hobbiton (which cost $75 each but we thought it was really worth it!), we had a quick look at at a nearby waterfall (Wairere Falls), had a walk around Matamata and then had dinner at KFC as we are classy like that!

We then headed to our holiday park and parked up for the night in Tommy the campervan!

Once I got used to my surroundings and all the bugs in the toilets it was a really nice night. Looking at the stars through the sunroof, talking and planning, we settled to sleep for the night which was surprisingly very comfortable! And even more surprising I managed a night without being in front of the tv!

It was a lovely day and now I’m even more excited for when we start travelling in Tommy the campervan full time in December!
