We had just started our jobs and with my birthday approaching we didn’t fancy a long trip away to celebrate so we looked up local getaways and came across a lovely holiday home on Waiheke Island, a 45 minute ferry ride from Auckland’s Half Moon Bay.
As it was June the island was quite quiet due to it being winter but after a pretty intense storm on the first night, we had lovely weather for the rest of our time there!
The house we stayed in was beautiful it had 3 bedrooms 2 lounge areas, a huge garden… and a hot tub!! It was quite expensive but it really was worth it.
If you like wine, Waiheke Island is famous for its vineyards but we just enjoyed driving around and stumbling across random beaches; there’s so many little gems to find and most of the time we had it all to ourselves!
Waiheke island also has cute little towns (Oneroa was really nice) and is such a lovely island! It was a brilliant way to spend my 23rd birthday!!
